(1) Faking the sending address of a transmission to gain illegal entry into a secure system. (2) The deliberate inducement of a user or resource to take incorrect action. The act of replacing the valid source and/or destination IP address and node numbers with false ones. Unauthorized use of legitimate Identification and Authentication (I&A) data, however it was obtained, to mimic a subject different from the attacker. Impersonating, masquerading, piggybacking, and mimicking are forms of spoofing.
