IP (address) spoofing is a technique used to gain unauthorized access to computers or network devices, whereby the intruder sends messages with an IP source address to pretend that the message is coming from a trusted source. The process by which a malicious individual reconfigures their system so that it has the IP address of a trusted system and then attempts to gain access to other external resources.
